Rules as of 2 November 2026: CMG reform of September 2025, CAF scale of 1 April 2026. The exact amount is calculated by the CAF.
How the three options are calculated
- Childminder (assistante maternelle): salary + maintenance allowance, minus the CAF aid (CMG), minus the tax credit (50% of the remaining cost, up to €3,500 of costs per child under 6).
- Home nanny (garde à domicile): salary + estimated social contributions (about 80% of the net salary), minus the CAF aid on the salary and on contributions, minus the home-employment tax credit (50%).
- Nursery (crèche): public nurseries charge by the hour according to the national CAF scale, based on your income; the CAF aid is already in the price. Private micro-crèches set their own prices (often €9 to €12 per hour).
The tax credit is paid the following year: in the first year you pay the full amount each month and get the credit back in the summer. How the aid and tax credit work.
